Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha election this year, slated to take place between April 11 and May 19, with the counting on May 23.
Gautam Gambhir, who announced his retirement from cricket in December 2018, has been very vocal about his support to the ruling government at the Centre, and has often lauded the policies and decisions taken by the BJP.
Gautam Gambhir said, "I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi's vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform."
He was welcomed to the party by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
